Welcome to the PREVIEW of the Art of Reggae beginning level theory course. This course is for beginning level players who have a little experience on the piano, however, because it focuses on theory it can be helpful to players and singers of all levels. By the end of this course, you’ll be playing REGGAE!
In this course you will learn:
-Keyboard symmetry
-Intervals
-Flats & Sharps
-Major scales
-Major and Minor Arpeggios
-Basic piano technique
-Triads
-7th Chords
-Roman Numeral Analysis
-Inversions
-Voice Leading
-Pentatonic Scales
-Blues Scales
-Some vocabulary for soloing
-Basics of Rhythm
The first three lessons present topics that are foundational to any kind of piano playing and music theory in general, and do not incorporate reggae specific techniques. The later lessons present topics that are also foundational for piano playing and music theory but use some very popular reggae riddims (rhythms) to help explain the concept at hand.
As you progress through the course you can go to the KEYBOARD PRACTICE LOOPS section and apply what you’ve learned to loops in different keys and with different feels.
There is one Practice Routine Play Along video with this course. It gives you a good work out for practicing triad and 7th chord inversions in the key of C. A second version of the video is presented that repeats the exact form but cuts out the bass so you can use it to practice all 12 keys (or at least a few others besides the key of C).
Lastly, don’t forget, as explained in the “How To Practice” intro video, make sure you have your notebook ready to go. Let’s dig in!
